description

June 2026 Updates: This year I am revisiting this project from the ground-up as interactive installation.

This project is a continuation of my exploration of creative technologies and aesthetics.
Perception aims to use the permacomputational features of two Arduino microcontrollers, one processing the video feed of a CCTV camera, and the other one to adjust the zoom and focus of the camera lens to enable it to ‘see’.
The process is interactive and live, where the video signal coming from a CCTV camera is processed by an Arduino before being controlled and display back to the public.

Using a minimalist computer made of two micro-controllers (Arduino), this project looks at the principles of computer vision, where perception is made possible through the aesthetics of hardware as functional object.
In this interactive installation, the audience can relate to the CCTV camera as its video feed is projected back to them using an external display, making the audience engage with their image, what the computer ‘sees’, and their mutual interactions.

This project originated from an assignment during my MA in Computational Arts at Goldsmiths (2013). As of yet has never been exhibited or shown in public.
